Major Consultation on Town Centre's Future |
 |
|
Date: 17/9/2007
A major and comprehensive consultation to look at options, plans and proposals for the development and improvement of Telford Town Centre is to start later this month.
The consultation by Telford & Wrekin Council, will seek to gain views on a wide range of areas which will shape the town centre's future and the Council's vision to turn this into a living and vibrant town centre.
This follows the publication of the Council's Central Telford Area Action Plan, which will be discussed by the Council's cabinet next week and outlines a number of policy options and possible strategies for the future of Telford Town Centre.
Among the key areas the consultation will focus on are:
- A range of possible options for development of and improvement to the town centre
- The type of new cultural, leisure, recreation, office and retail facilities the town centre might have to make it a living town centre
- How any development of the town centre would integrate with Telford Town Park and how the park's facilities could be improved and receive additional investment
Council leader Andrew Eade said: "I have promised the people of the borough a say on the issues that are so important to them - such as any plans for Telford Town Centre and how this will link to our other plans for our borough towns.
"We are now delivering on this promise with a consultation that will be meaningful, far-reaching and will influence any final plans for the Town Centre.
"We will be upfront with our vision and at the end of this consultation programme, I believe we will have had a process that truly takes account of a very broad range of views and our plans will then be able to take full account of these."
Councillor Denis Allen, Cabinet member for Community Services, speaking about the proposals to better integrate the Town Park into the town centre, added: "We are committed to protect and enhance the Town Park and to safeguard this open space for future generations."
The Council will issue more specific details about how people can get involved in the consultation nearer its start.
