Everyone is telling us how important it is to eat a healthy diet, but do you know what that is?

A healthy diet is about eating the right balance and amount of foods.

There is no such thing as a bad or a good food, its just some foods should be eaten more often than others e.g. fruit, and some less often e.g. chocolate.

You don't have to give up treats like crisps to eat healthily. You just have to be smart about how often and how much of them you eat.

Click on the Balance of Good Health picture which shows you the right amount of foods needed to make up a balanced diet.

I believe that all foods eaten sensibly can be enjoyed as part of a healthy diet - balance is the key to success.

Follow my top tips to stay fit and healthy

  • Start your day with breakfast. Breakfast fills your "empty tank" to get you going after a long night without food. And it can help you do better in school. I like cereals, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, milk and fruit juice.  A good breakfast can really make a difference.
  • Get Moving! It's easy to fit physical activities into your daily routine. Walk, cycle or jog to see friends.
  • Drink plenty of water – it helps your brain to function!
  • Eat fresh fruit and vegetables to make up those “Eat 5 a day” items to stay fit and healthy all year round. Swap some of your usual snacks for fruit (e.g. bananas,) including dried fruit (e.g. raisins), chopped vegetables (such as carrots) or yoghurt.
  • Remember chocolate is a treat.
  • Eat a school lunch every day!
