The Welsh Assemblies Free Breakfast Initiative was introduced to stem the practice of skipping breakfast, help improve concentration and health and raise the standards of learning by providing pupils with the opportunity to receive a free, healthy breakfast at school.
In participating schools pupils can come to school before the school day and enjoy a healthy breakfast which includes a selection of cereal and milk, wholemeal toast and unsweetened fruit juices.
Betws Primary were the first School in Bridgend to provide free healthy Breakfasts under the Welsh Assembly Government’s Initiative. The breakfast service is also offered in
- Porthcawl Primary
- Pencoed Juniors
- Llangewydd Primary
- Tondu Primary
Other schools are coming on board in the near future so look out for advertisements of the new breakfast service in your school.
The Breakfast club which recently started in Porthcawl Primary has already had some very important visitors to encourage the children to start the day the right way including Bridgend MP Madeline Moon.
Ms Aston, the Headteacher at Betws Primary says ‘We are thrilled with the new service and have seen many benefits already. For example pupils who travel from outside the catchment area are now able to come and socialise with other pupils before the school day and many pupils who previously have been late are now attending early”
