School Meals Staff rewarded for their excellence
Primary School Cook of the Year: Winner Rhian Phillips and Runner Up Maralyn Morgan accept their award from the Mayor of Bridgend
 
Pil Primary School received the Welsh Food Hygiene Gold Award from Mr Chris Goacher
 
Blaencaerau Junior School picked up Primary School Kitchen of the Year Award from Councillor Voisey and Ms Hilary Anthony

On 17th November 2006, Bridgend School Dinner Ladies ditched their tabbards and left their rolling pins at home to attend Catering Services Annual Catering Awards sponsored by school meal suppliers in the Hi Tide, Porthcawl.

 

Never before has it been so important for Catering Services to support and acknowledge their staff for their commitment to the school meals service.

 

The National Assembly are currently working on setting new standards for Nutritional School Dinners in all Welsh Schools.

 

The staff have shown their dedication to encouraging a healthy diet within our schools by actively working towards providing and promoting a healthier more efficient service.

 

The awards night was an opportunity for kitchen teams to be recognized for their achievements, improve moral and thank them for perseverance and encouragement  to help school meal pupils make the right choices.

 

The winners were as follows:

 

 

CUSTOMER CARE AWARDS

Primary School Winners - Cefn Glas Infants & Ysgol Bryn Castell

Comprehensive winner – Bryntirion Comprehensive

 

MOST IMPROVED KITCHEN OF THE YEAR  

Primary Winner - Mynydd Cynffig Infants School

Comprehensive winner – Ynysawdre Comprehensive School

 

SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

Peters Food Service

 

COOK OF THE YEAR

Primary Runner Up – Maralyn Morgan of West Park Primary winner - Rhian Phillips of Ysgol Y Ferch Comprehensive winner - Linda Gallimore - Cynffig Comprehensive

 

SCHOOL KITCHEN OF THE YEAR AWARD

Primary – Bleancaerau Primary

Comprehensive – Porthcawl Comprehensive

 

 

Norma Griffiths the Group Manager of Catering Services said:

“Once again, our Catering Business Awards have been a great success.  It is great to see everyone rewarded for their hard work, support and loyalty in highlighting the importance of healthy eating to our pupils.  A big thank you also has to be given to our suppliers for their generous sponsorship, without which this event would not be possible.”
