Breakfast has long been recognised as the most important meal of the day and evidence suggests that children who have the opportunity to eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast prior to the start of the school day are more likely to achieve their full educational potential.   Experience has also shown that successful breakfast schemes in schools have led to positive changes in children’s attitude - improved attendance, improved behaviour, fewer discipline problems and greater sustained concentration, to enhance learning abilities. In 2005, the Welsh Government launched a free breakfast scheme for primary schools in Wales.  They run before school starts and offers a healthy, well balanced breakfast every day.  Breakfast includes a choice of cereal or yoghurt, toast, fresh fruit wedges and a glass of fresh apple or orange juice.  

Many schools in the Bridgend County Borough are currently taking part in this initiative, with more joining the scheme on a regular basis.
