Nearly 12,000 children across Bridgend County Borough have enjoyed the catchy songs and energetic routines of the ‘Healthy Living and Recycling Road Show’ which has now finished its tour of local primary schools. The Road Show was jointly funded and led by the Council’s Catering and Recycling Services and was headed by the Gregory Brothers and mascots Owain the Owl and Eco Eli. Audiences have been treated to entertaining performances, joining in with the dance moves and educational songs along the way.
The Road Show was made possible by a Welsh Assembly Government ‘Appetite for Life’ grant. The aim was to inform local children and improve their food choices by encouraging them to consume foods containing essential nutrients that would have a positive effect on their health, wellbeing, behaviour, concentration and ultimately their educational attainment.
Mayor Jefferson Tildesley said: “The Council is constantly striving to promote healthy lifestyles as well as educate the public on reducing, reusing and recycling their waste. These Road Shows allow important messages to be communicated to school children in a fun and informal way. If we can get them recycling and thinking about healthy eating in a pro-active manner, then hopefully they can pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm to their families and ensure a greener and healthier future is enjoyed by all residents across the Borough”.
