David's Diary - August 2008

Each month David tells us where he has been, what he has been doing and his plans for the month ahead. You can go to each month by clicking on the buttons down the right hand side of this page. This diary will continue until September 2008 when David will have just returned from the Olympic Games in Beijing, hopefully with another medal!

Hi all,

I must start with a big apology to all my readers and fans on this website.  I have been keeping you up to date on my activities for many months now.  All of a sudden I have found that my training schedule has completely taken over my life.  This is not surprising as I train and prepare for the two biggest events of my life.  My second ever 10k swim in open water at the World Championships and this is shortly followed by my second Olympic Games in Beijing.

At Beijing I will be hoping to do better than my Bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens where I competed in the men’s 1500 metres freestyle.  I am also competing in the 10km Open Water Longcourse.  This is a new event for me and requires swimming laps around an artificial island in a lake or around buoys at sea.  It is like a swimming marathon but people can also upset your strokes by bumping into you.  Competitors can be warned by the judge and if they continue to do this then eventually they will be disqualified.  This event is very new to me so I will be interested to see how well I can do.

The 10km World Championships are taking place off the coast of Seville in Spain.  If I do well I will qualify for a similar event at Beijing.  This will mean I can double up my events and swim in the 1500 metres freestyle and the 10,000 metres in the open water.  Once the Olympic Games are over I am off on holiday for nearly four weeks so I won’t be back until the beginning of October.  I will tell you how everything went when I get back.  I hope you understand and I look forward to telling you how everything went and what my plans are for the future.  And if you have any questions then don’t forget to send them in.

An update on David’s summer

This is how David Davies did in the World Championships and the Olympic Games:

In the World Championships 10km open water swimming David finished in second place to win a silver medal.  This means he has also qualified for this event at the Olympic Games.

In the Olympic Games in Beijing David qualified for the final of the 1500 metres freestyle swimming and finished in sixth place.  The following week he swam in the open water 10km and won a silver medal.

Congratulations to David from everyone at www.myschoollunch.co.uk for his brilliant summer of success and we wish him all the best for the future.

And coming soon we will be welcoming Tom Daley to this website as we follow the 14 year old diving sensation through to the Olympic Games in London 2012.  Tom finished 7th in the final of the 10 metre high board individual diving event at Beijing.  Then he went off to the Junior World Championships where he won two silver medals, one on the 10m platform and the other on the springboard.
