Congratulations to all the contestants who took part in the School Chef of The Year 2009 Local Heat in Cambridge on Monday 3rd November. Each entrant was required to produce, in just one and a half hours, a healthy balanced two-course meal comprising of a main course and dessert that would appeal to 11 year olds in school. Dishes had to conform to the National Food Based Nutritional Standards and could be made up of poultry, meat, fish and non-meat proteins. A maximum of £1.10 per head was allowed for the food cost of a main course and dessert for one child.
The winner was Kay Perkins from Hampton Vale Primary who will go on to compete at the Eastern Region heat in April. Well done also to Runner Up Julia Wilson from Lantern Primary, Carole Youngman, CCS Trainer, and Hilary Hudson, from St Mary and St John Primary in Rutland, who all produced very impressive dishes. Helen Gibbs, Public Health Dietitian, commented that the food quality and presentation continues to improve year on year.
