DOUBLE AWARD DELIGHT FOR SCHOOL CATERERS
Richard Ware collects the award with Arnold Fewell from AVF Marketing Ltd

Date: 28/7/2009

School caterers from Cambridgeshire have beaten private sector competition to scoop two top industry awards.

Cambridgeshire Catering and Cleaning Services (CCS), which supplies meals for schools in Cambridgeshire and other authorities, won two trophies at the Cateys - the catering industry's equivalent of the Oscars.

The first award was for the Best Group Marketing Campaign, which CCS won for its highly successful 10 out of 10 campaign to encourage more pupils to take school meals.

The second award - Public Sector Caterer of the Year - was won by the Head of CCS Richard Ware.

The Cateys, introduced 26 years ago by Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine, were held this year at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London and attended by over 1000 guests.

CCS - which is part of Cambridgeshire County Council - has achieved a 4 per cent increase in the take up of school meals in primary schools, compared with an increase of just 0.1 per cent nationwide.

Cllr Martin Curtis, Cabinet Member for Children said: "This is an extraordinary achievement, but typical of the energy and commitment with which CCS have tackled the drive to increase the take-up of school meals in Cambridgeshire. Congratulations to Richard and his team."
