A new kitchen training facility has been built by Cambridgeshire County Council, which will further enhance the quality of school meals across the county and beyond.
Cambridgeshire Catering Services (CCS) - part of the County Council > -> has teamed up with FEAST (Food Excellence & Skills Training) to develop the new kitchen at its base in Huntingdon.
It will be used to train school caterers from Cambridgeshire and neighbouring counties and will offer a range of courses, including professional NVQs in catering and specialist short courses run by the CCS internal training team and external training providers.
By having this dedicated facility, CCS will continue to ensure all staff have access to the latest and relevant skills training which in turn will allow CCS to continue to provide quality and nutritious school meals.
The majority of the £85,000 cost of the new kitchen was met by the School Food Trust.
FEAST, which is part of the School Food Trust, has put together a range of training which CCS is committed to delivering. It provides all CCS employees with the opportunity to access free professional NVQs. Each trainee within the new training facility will have their own dedicated workstation with multi-media points available for interactive learning.
The new kitchen at Unit 1A, Midgehall Court, Ermine Business Park, Huntingdon - will be officially opened on Wednesday 21 October at 12 noon by Cllr Martin Curtis, Cambridgeshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Children.
Cllr Curtis said:"This is a superb new facility, which will further improve the range and quality of the meals we are able to offer by training staff to the highest standards. There has never been a better time for children to have school meals."
