Cambridgeshire County Council is launching a new initiative to encourage school pupils to eat more healthily - fish fingers.
Cambridgeshire Catering Services (CCS) - which is part of the County Council - has achieved a 7% increase in school meal take up over the last two years, whilst at the same time meeting Government standards on nutrition and quality.
Their latest venture is to introduce Omega 3 fish fingers onto menus - a fish finger made from 100 per cent fish fillet that comes from sustainable sources and contains no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.
It has also been proven that Omega 3 aids the physical development of the brain and helps keep the heart healthy.
CCS is working in partnership with Birds Eye to launch the Omega 3 fish finger at a special event at Orchard Park Primary School in Cambridge on March 16 at 10.30am. The event will also feature fun
activities for children, including a food quiz and cookery workshop.
CCS provides school meals to nearly 90% of Cambridgeshire's 201 primary schools. It supports the Change 4 Life campaign, whose objectives include developing healthier eating habits.
Feedback from schools helps them strike the right balance between providing healthy, nutritious meals that children will enjoy eating.
