Menus

Cumbria County Council, Facilities Management unit has put a great deal of time, effort and money into creating healthy school meals for your children. We want to make sure parents know what is on the school meal menus in Cumbria and have all the information about school lunches they need. That is why we have developed this website.

We believe it is important for pupils to enjoy their school meals, and for lunchtime to be a fun experience. In Cumbria we regularly have school meal promotions and theme days which children love. These often tie in to the school curriculum and we work with your child's school to promote these.

For many years, we have bought quality fresh food products locally, wherever possible, and insist that our food suppliers comply with our standards. Our school meals are made with ingredients that contain:-

  • No azo dyes or artificial colourings that can trigger hyperactivity
  • No mechanically recovered meats
  • No genetically modified materials
  • No nuts (we will notify if this is unavoidable)
  • Reduced levels of salt, fat and sugar
  • Only ‘Lion Brand' fresh eggs, as these are guaranteed to be salmonella free

You will find a sample menu below.  We work with all of our primary schools to develop healthy and nutritious menus that pupils love.  For a copy of the menu at your child's primary school please contact barbara.cross@cumbriacc.gov.uk

If your child has a special dietary requirement, that you would like to discuss further you can contact barbara.cross@cumbriacc.gov.uk or use the contact us form on this site.

RECIPE of the MONTH

Each month we provide a different recipe for you to try.  Spring is round the corner but the nights (and days!) are still chilly!  Here are two recipes where you can use some seasonal produce for some winter comfort food.  As leeks are in season at present, we have a recipe for sausage, leek and apple pie - just what you need as a winter warmer!  Also, if you have any rhubarb in your garden (some of you may have "forced" rhubarb) or you can buy it in the shops currently, there is a recipe for sour cream rhubarb squares - a tasty pudding!  Feedback on this recipe suggests that you can use 50 grammes of sugar for the topping and substitute natural yoghurt for the sour cream if you wish to make a lighter version.  Click here to download the recipes.

Primary School Menu planner for West area schools

If you go to a school covered by our West area management team (running from the outskirts of Carlisle down to Waberthwaite), you will see a menu planner which has a themed promotional meal for each month for your school.

Keep an eye out at your school for further promotional meals over the course of the year.

Make sure you book your lunch in advance!
