School meal theme days and promotions are very popular with children as they enjoy trying different dishes from around the world. We hold them throughout the school year with the aim of making lunchtimes a little different and to create more fun in the school meals' service.
Theme days are also educational and links are made with the National Curriculum so children learn during lunch times. For example if they were learning about the Patron Saints we could have special Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English dishes.

Facilities Management are having a theme day to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on 30 May 2012. The menu for the day can be accessed by clicking here.
Schools looked after by our West area team in Cumbria enjoyed a Titanic Theme menu to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic Ship South of Newfoundland on 15 April 1912 - unbelieveable that this happened one hundered years ago. Pupils enjoyed a menu of Roast Beef served with Roast and Creamed Potatoes, Broccoli and Carrots, followed by either Profiteroles or Jelly. Many schools covered this event in class, and pupils in some schools were encouraged to dress up in clothes from the period.
We have some feedback and some pictures of the pupils from Moor Row and Greystoke schools. Click here to see how much they enjoyed the theme day.
A factual placemat was also produced for the day - click here to find out more!
