CREAM OF THE SCHOOL CATERING CROP
School cooks across Derbyshire savoured the sweet taste of success after scooping awards for providing an excellent meals service to the county’s school children. Derbyshire County Council held its tenth annual Primary Catering Quality Assurance Awards and ninth annual Secondary Catering Awards to recognise top quality service provided to schools by the authority’s catering teams. Teams were assessed on their performance and as part of the process school cooks were nominated by pupils, teachers or members of the authority’s catering service management team and then judged in action at their schools. They were assessed on the quality of food, service, food presentation, customer care, hygiene, health and safety and kitchen management skills. In the primary school cooking section there were 53 gold award winners, 82 silver award winners, 44 bronze award winners, a further 28 certificates of achievements and 29 Customer Service awards. In addition to these awards the Most Improved Meal Uptake and Most Improved Unit awards were also presented. In the primary school dining section there were 13 gold award winners, 34 silver award winners, 19 bronze award winners, 24 certificates of achievement and 11 customer service certificate. The overall winner of the Platinum Award of Excellence was Fritchley C.E. (A) Primary School. The award was presented to staff at a ceremony hosted at the school.
