The clocks have changed and the evenings are getting darker.
If you are out walking or on your bicycle after school, you must be even more careful over the next few months to make sure you are safe.
So, for the winter, consider the following suggestions:
- Wear bright or fluorescent clothes that show up during the day, even in mist or rain and reflect car lights at night. Alternatively, have strips of reflective material on coats and school bags.
- Remember - it is illegal to cycle in the dark without a white front light, a red rear light and red rear reflector. And always remember to wear a cycle helmet.
- Cross the road at the safest place possible, and always at a pedestrian crossing if one is nearby.
- Remember to use the Green Cross Code at all times.
- Walk in well lit areas only and if there isn't a pavement, always walk towards oncoming traffic
Road Safety Week is from Monday 10 November - so make sure you are safe and check the batteries in your bike lights and torch!
