There is no such thing as bad food, but what is important is to eat a variety of different foods and benefit from healthy eating.

Eat Healthy

  • Eat a mixture of foods with lots of fruit and vegetables.
  • Eat breakfast every day.
  • Don't snack between meals.
  • Drink plenty of water in school and at home.
  • Clean your teeth twice a day.
  • Take lots of exercise - why not walk to school?
  • Join in sports and fun activities. Check out your local leisure centre.
  • Get plenty of sleep.

Get Active

Most people know what exercise is, but do you know why exercise is so important?

Actually, there are so many reasons why exercise is good for you.

  • Exercise makes you fit
  • Exercise helps you keep at a healthy weight
  • Exercise makes you feel happy
  • Exercise is good for your heart
  • Exercise is fun!
  • Without exercise, we wouldn't feel or look as good as we do without it

So how can you stay in shape through exercise?
There are many sports you can enjoy. Why not contact your local pool or sports centre and see what sports you can do there?

Five a Day
We should all try to eat 5 portions of fruit or vegetables each day. Having a school lunch can contribute towards 2 or more of the 5 portions. To get the additional portions you need, you can simply eat fruit and vegetables with the other meals you have during the day, have fruit juices or smoothies or eat a piece of fruit as a snack. For example you could:-

  1. Chop a banana onto your breakfast cereal
  2. Drink a glass of fruit juice with your breakfast
  3. Put additional fruit into hot dishes such as dried sultanas in curries or additional tomatoes in a bolognaise
  4. When you next fancy a snack, try pieces of raw celery or carrot - Tasty and crunchy

Can you think of other ways to add fruit and vegetables to your diet? Why don't you write them down.  You may need to ask a parent for help.
