Pupils Learn to Eat Like an Olympian

Pupils from Ravensbury Community Primary School in Clayton have been learning about the importance of healthy eating from teenage diving star Tom Daley.

The sporting star who recently won gold in the 10metre platform event at the FINA World Championships in Rome, now has his own micro-site on www.myschoollunch.co.uk/manchester

The website aims to educate young people and parents about school dinners, healthy eating, and features the menu for the city's schools. It's continually updated with activities, news, competitions and classroom resources. The new micro-site, www.myschoollunch.co.uk/manchester/tomdaley is highly interactive featuring videos, blogs, information on sports, and also offers users the chance to ‘Ask Tom' and quiz him on his diet, lifestyle and achievements.

This week was the turn of pupils from Ravensbury Community Primary School, who were filmed asking Tom questions including what it was like to win gold, what his training regime is like, and what he gets up to in his spare time.

These will now be shown on the myschoollunch website, along with a film of Tom Daley who has viewed the pupils' questions and recorded his replies.

Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Finance and Human Resources with a responsibility for school meals said: "Tom Daley is a fantastic role model for young people so his involvement in the myschoollunch website is a great way to help get them more interested in healthy eating and lifestyles."

Tom Daley was Britain's second youngest athlete to compete in an Olympic Games when he went to Beijing in 2008 at just 14 years of age. Hot on the heels of his recent gold medal in Rome, Tom is now aiming to win a medal at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, and pupils can now follow his progress and training on www.myschoollunch.co.uk/manchester/tomdaley as well as keeping up to date with healthy eating initiatives and activities.
