Here are some tips from the Vital 5 to help keep you fit and healthy:

Captain Carrot says, “Eat 5, feel alive!”“Eating fruit and vegetables helps your body to grow and keeps you healthy” says Captain Carrot, the Vital 5 leader. “Try to eat at least 5 portions every day and remember that one portion is a handful of fruit or vegetables. It’s a great idea to eat lots of different colours too. Here are some fun ways to get your 5 a day”:-

  • Fruit kebabs
  • Carrot sticks and yummy dips
  •  Fruit smoothies
  • Top your pizza with extra veg

Archie Apple helps you “Get the balance right”“Eating a balanced diet helps you to stay strong and healthy and gives you lots of energy” explains Archie Apple. “This means eating lots of different types of foods, especially fruit, vegetables and starchy foods like pasta, potatoes and rice. Some foods like crisps, cakes and fizzy pop have lots of fat and sugar. We should try to eat less of these because they are not as good for our bodies. Perform the perfect food balancing act, just like me!!”

Bella Banana wants you to “Have fun, be active!”
"To help give me super speed I need lots of energy!” says Bella Banana. "Exercise and sport with your friends is really fun and when you are eating healthy food too you feel great and have a fruitastic time! Whatever you like to do, running, skipping, jumping or playing games, exercise makes us feel good and keeps us healthier. See you at the finish line!"

Stella Sweetcorn wants you to “Be bright, drink water”
"To stay looking sparkling I drink plenty of water every day" says Stella Sweetcorn. “Water helps your body to work properly and is especially good for your skin. Try not to drink too much fizzy pop or other sugary drinks because they are bad for your teeth.  Drinking water throughout the day is one of my celebrity secrets to looking so healthy and glowing. If you drink lots of water, you can be healthy and sparkling like me!”

James Broccoli says, “Be smart, eat breakfast”
”A healthy breakfast gives you energy for the day and helps you concentrate in school” advises James Broccoli, the coolest of the Vital 5 gang.  “There are lots of foods you could eat for breakfast and here are some of my favourites:
-

  • Porridge topped with raisins
  • Scrambled egg on toast
  • Toast with sliced banana
  • Yoghurt with fruit
  • Milk or fruit juice to drink

If you want to be smart like me, eat a healthy breakfast before school!”
