Benefits of a School Meal
There are many benefits in your child having a school meal we've listed a few;
1. Time saved in the mornings not having to prepare a packed lunch, plus there's no worry about keeping the food fresh and hygienic until lunchtime.
2. Your child will benefit from sitting down and eating together at a table and are encouraged to try new foods.
3. Meals are healthy and there is variety from one day to the next. Soon the menus will be nutritionally analysed and balanced.
4. We cater for vegetarians, special needs including medical diets and religious needs.
5. Your child can join in with promotions, competitions and fun days.
6. Your child can join in with special meals that link in with subjects being taught in class.
7. Enjoy events such as a Christmas lunch and other special themed menus.
8. 2 Course Meal and Drink , all for only for only £1.70 (Infants) and £1.80 (juniors)
The Food We Use & How We Use It
1. We only use approved suppliers and manufacturers
2. We buy food locally wherever possible
3. We work to ensure emerging trends can be catered for, eg currently looking at, Local, better quality items and Fair Trade products.
4. We do not use meat products that contain MRM (mechanically retrieved meat)
5. The following additives are not allowed in the food we provide as they cause the most concern to children's behaviour: E110, E102, E107, E123, E120.
6. We do not knowingly use food containing GM (Genetically modified) ingredients and take care to ensure that our suppliers can confirm that their products do not contain GM foods.
7. We do not use salt or sugar in our cooking processes or menus.
8. Wherever possible we oven cook food to reduce the fat content in our dishes.
9. We have modified our recipes increase fibre.
10. We encourage eating ‘5 a day' fruit and vegetables. The school meal can provide two of these essential healthy foods every school day.
11. We comply with the National Nutritional Standards for school lunches.
12. We actively promote and encourage healthy eating and like to make eating meals an enjoyable and valuable experience.
