Do you want to know more about job vacancies in school catering? North Yorkshire County Caterers employ about 1500 staff within over 400 school kitchens and dining rooms in North Yorkshire. We are always on the look out for friendly and enthusiastic people to work for us. The work involves preparing and serving healthy meals to pupils in both Primary and Secondary Schools. So there could be a vacancy right on your doorstep.

Listed below are the types of jobs that are regularly available. At the end of this section you will find a contact name for more information and they will be able to send or email an application form.

The types of posts are: -

Mobile Kitchen Assistant
Although based at one school, you must be able to travel to other kitchen sites across the County.

Kitchen Assistant
You will help to prepare and serve meals, setting up the dining areas and wash up. These are ideal roles for people who can work as part of a team, have a flexible approach to work and who can communicate effectively with staff and pupils. Hours range from 7½ to 25 per week.

Assistant Cook
You will assist the Cook with cooking, serving meals, washing up, basic book-keeping and training. You could even be in chearge of a small kitchen in a primary school.

Cook
You will be responsible for the general supervision of the kitchen and staff as well as cooking, serving of meals and cleaning. You will also complete administration work in relation to the running of the kitchen. You would preferably have some catering experience ideally backed up with NVQ level 2. You will need to have the ability to lead and motivate a team and have an adaptable, flexible approach to work, as well as the skills to communicate effectively with staff and customers.

Cashier
You will operate the cash till for a cash cafeteria - style service, and be responsible for cashing up. You must have good basic maths skills, the ability to work under pressure and to communicate effectively with staff and pupils.
