North Yorkshire County Caterers doesn't have to look far to find its meat and vegetable suppliers as they are all based in the region.

The caterers use four local companies to supply the ingredients for their school meals.

• Gilmoor Foods distribute local and regional fresh meat to North Yorkshire schools. About 60% of the meat is reared and processed within the county.

• Green King was formed by directors of two existing suppliers, Gilmoor Foods and Feast. One of the suppliers to Green King is Mark Palmer from Metcalfe Organics near Boroughbridge.

• Class One is based in Skipton and has been in business for 15 years. They employ 17 staff and supply fresh produce like Yorkshire tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries.

• Stuart Foods is a family run business started by husband and wife Stuart and Brenda Howarth in 1981. It now has 17 employees. They are based in Scarborough and have a long history of working with local and regional growers.
