Over 40 children in Harrogate took part in a fun cooking activity as part of The Grange Partnership. This is out of school care for children and is based at Bilton School.
Several sessions took place throughout the day where children made and decorated bsicuits. The session was run by Gavin Wakeham, who is the training manager for North Yorkshire County Caterers. Gavin has spent 24 years with the army ending his services as Catering Trainer for the Defence Food Services School in Aldershot.
The children had to use healthy toppings for the biscuits like cranberries, blueberries, sultanas, banana, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds and apricot. When they were cooked children could either take them home to eat or try them whilst they were there.
Gavin said: "It was a really fun day and the children seemed to enjoy the experience. Lots of varieties of biscuits were made and it was great to see the children learning a new skill during the school holidays."
