30 children from St Augustines RC Primary School in Nottingham City visited Stonebridge City Farm to launch a new website about food and where it comes from.

This is in support of the Government's Year of Food and Farming organised by the Food and Countryside Education.

The website at www.myfarmfood.co.uk/nottingham helps children learn about where their food comes from and how it gets to market. There are activity sheets, a quiz, a farmer's blog, resources for teachers and much more. It will soon have a Hoop-la game where children will learn about different foods and where they come from. This fits in with the funfair of educational games at www.myschoolunch.co.uk/nottingham with links to support Key Stages One and Two of the National Curriculum.

The children arrived at Stonebridge City Farm to learn about how plants grow, see a demonstration about honey and bees, learn about animals and which meat or product they provide to humans as well as handling smaller animals such as rabbits.

Jacquie Blake, Operations Manager for Nottingham City's School Catering Service said, "We believe it is very important for children to find out more about where their food comes from and how it grows. This is why we have created the www.myfarmfood.co.uk/nottingham website. Then when we provide the meals at school in lunch time they will know far more about what they are eating."

Bill Lewis, Headteacher at St Augustines RC Primary School, added, "Healthy eating is a very important subject area at this school and this is why I am delighted that pupils from Years 3 and 4 will be taking part in the launch today. Many of them will not have seen a working farm and this will be a fantastic learning opportunity for all of them."

Ruth Shelton, Manager of Stonebridge City Farm, commented, "The City Farm provides a fantastic learning experience to the local community and we want to play an active part in the Year of Food and Farming. This is why we are delighted to welcome the children from St Augustines. We also offer real work experience for people who are denied work experience due to a learning or physical disability."
