Primary school parents in Southampton are now able to find out what’s on the school lunch menu via their mobile phones from the start of the new academic year in September. They will also be able to access the nutritional information about the meals to see how they are meeting the new Nutritional Standards that have just been introduced by the Government. To access the information you will need an Internet connection on your mobile phone and then type in myschoollunch.mobi/southampton in the browser.
Stephen Price, General Manager of City Catering, said “I am very aware that parents need up-to-date information in this digital age and that is why we have invested in this new technology. It also helps us give information to parents that shows the effort we have put in to meet the new Government standards. This authority has invested a lot of time, effort and money into the promotion of healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Parents can find out a lot more about what we are doing by going to www.myschoollunch.co.uk/southampton. There are lots of exciting things planned for the website in the next academic year including a new focus on sport and healthy lifestyles as we start the build up to the Olympic Games in London 2012.
This is the latest in a long line of innovations and is great because it will help parents plan more effectively and ensure meals are not repeated at home”.
