The Options
There are three options at lunch time, they are:
Fresh Fruit is an essential part of any school meal
The School Meal

The school meal is a tasty, hot choice for those that want to recharge their batteries for afternoon lessons.  Children can learn about different foods and develop the social skills  and confidence involved with eating at school.

Parents can be assured that their child's school meal has been nutritionally analysed to ensure that it meets the government's standards for school meals.  It is low in salt, sugar and fat and contains the essential nutrients necessary for healthy growth in children.

The Packed Lunch from Home

The packed lunch from home sometimes seems the cheapest option.  This is not always the case as many packed lunch costs are hidden in the weekly shop.  Then you have to remember about the time it takes to prepare, clean up and the occasional rushes to the local shop because you have run out of something.

If you do choose to give your child a packed lunch try and ensure that in contains plenty of fruit and vegetables with carbohydrates such as wholegrain bread and lean proteins.  Avoid giving children foods high in fat, salt and sugar and avoid sugary drinks and sweets.

Going Home for Lunch
Going home may be suitable for those that live near school but it could be disruptive for your child, especially if their friends are staying at school.  Lunch times are great for helping children to learn about playing and interacting together.
