THE PARENT TASTER SESSION EXPERIENCE
Your School may have in the past offered you the opportunity to attend a parent taster session. If you have not been able to attend or not sure what a Taster Session means, we have taken the opportunity below to explain what the session is all about and encourage you to go along.
With the introduction of the new Food Standards in Schools from September 2006, Commercial Services took the opportunity to work with schools to find positive ways to promote the introduction of new dishes featured on the menu. One such initiative is a ‘Taster Session’. In partnership with a school, Parents, Grandparents, Guardians and any other interested party are welcomed into the school at a pre arranged time to sample a range of current menu items that are offered on a daily basis to the children within the school. Invitations are sent home in book bags and often the event appears in the school newsletter.
The range of dishes that are available are a mix of both main, vegetarian courses and desserts. These dishes may not always reflect the childrens favourite options as the purpose of the event is to present a sample from the varied range of dishes that are offered within the three week menu cycle. All the dishes sampled are an exact reflection of what the children receive using freshly cooked ingredients.
Parents are encouraged to bring along younger siblings who we hope will be our new customers of the future. This event presents and excellent opportunity for you to ask any questions and give feedback on what you have sampled, as well as a social occasion to meet with our catering staff, local management team and other parents.
If an invitation to a taster event comes home in the book bag, we encourage you, if at all possible to attend. Your feedback is always valuable and assists us in making further improvements to the service in future menus.
