It is the school governors' responsibility in each school to ensure eligible pupils are provided with a free school meal that meets the nutritional standards.
It may be that in recent months your family circumstances have changed or perhaps it may simply be that you have never considered if your child might be eligible for a free school meal.
Parents do not have to pay for school lunches if they receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,040
- The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Children who receive Income Support or income-based Job Seeker's Allowance in their own right qualify as well.
If any of of the above are applicable to you, please apply to your child's school.
