Date: 10/6/2010

Surrey Commercial Services are pleased to announce St James School, Elstead is making excellent progress in the Food for Life Flagship programme and having obtained the Bronze Award, is now about to go forward for the Silver Award.

The Food for Life Partnership (FFLP) aims to demonstrate the benefits of a quality school food provision and a whole school approach to food. They work with schools and caterers to develop a good food culture in the school and local community.

Through the flagship schools and communities the FFLP offer on the ground expertise and support to schools and their caterers to achieve all three of the FFLP Mark levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold).

The Food for Life Partnership work together to achieve this by:

  • Providing training on food assurance schemes and reduce the environmental impact of the food served
  • Improves staff, pupil and community knowledge of healthy and sustainable food.
  • Improving the whole school community's skills in growing, buying and cooking food.
  • Develop seasonal menus that pupils enjoy and meet food and nutrient based standards
  • And much, much more besides...

Michelle Coates, The Caterer and her team have worked exceptionally hard in conjunction with the school to gain this prestigious award. Congratulations to her and all at the school, and good luck in working towards the Silver Mark.
