Surrey County Council's catering service, which is responsible for providing 50,000 meals a day, has won a healthy meals comepetition. The Commercial Services team took top spot in the Secondary Schools category of the Healthy School Caterer competition, having made a shortlist of the top 15 and been one of five that made the final stage.

The factors taken in to accountby judges included quality of food, staff training and how children were encouraged to make healthy choices. They praised the council for creating healthy school meals in line with the current high street trends.
