For many years Surrey Commercial Services has provided a catering service to schools in the county; years that have given us a unique understanding of the demands of the education catering business and the needs of our customers.
Every day our catering teams produce in excess of 55,000 meals in Education Establishments and as a non profit making organisation within Surrey County Council we are in business soley for the benefit of you our customers. We have no shareholders, just stakeholders!

The members of our catering team are well trained
Our Caterers are well trained:
- We constantly run training courses for our members of staff. This not only ensures that our team is well qualified to undertake the task of feeding Surrey's schoolchildren but also fulfils personal expectations and maintains morale throughout the company.
- Every member of staff is trained in Basic Food Hygiene and many of our catering managers have attained Intermediate or Advanced Standard Food Hygiene Diplomas.
- We are constantly training catering managers in supervisory skills to help them develop their teams.
- We run Cooks Craft courses at various levels to train staff in practical skills.
- Our Bookkeeping course helps catering managers to run their units as small businesses.
- Many staff are trained in Health and Safety procedures.
- We are embarking upon a programme of NVQ training and catering managers attend workshops held by the Community Dietician relating to diets, nutrition and healthy eating.
- All our staff are required to complete equality and diversity training
We Take Food Hygiene Very Seriously
In addition to the staff training described above, the Company has adopted a very stringent Assured Safe Catering system that sets out procedures to ensure food is prepared in the safest environments possible.
The Food We Use
We only use recognised companies to supply our food. Manufacturers and suppliers have to meet stringent standards of safety and hygiene before being considered suitable as contractors.
We have introduced beef back into our menus but there is always an alternative available and we do not knowingly use foods containing genetically modified starch or mechanically recovered meat.
