Some people say that you look a bit
like a frog when you swim breaststroke.
This is mainly because you move your
legs in a similar way to a frog swimming.
Breaststroke swimmers often look very
relaxed as they move through the water,
the more relaxed the swimmer looks
the more likely it is they are working
very hard under the water.
Take a look at the cartoon above,
you can change the speed of the animation
with the slider to see the arm and
leg movement in more detail. When
swimming breaststroke your body needs
to be symmetrical – whatever
the right hand side of the body is
doing, the left hand side should be
a mirror image.
You could practice breaststroke legs
with a float. Holding the float in
your hands, you should start stretched
out straight, then with your knees
bent, bring your heels up towards
your bottom, kick out with your feet
and bring them round and back together.
Then let your body glide though the
water before you start another leg
kick.
