Telford Children Are Keeping The Dream Alive
Date: 6/12/2005

The countdown has started and Telford has just six days left in its attempt to get into the Top 30 music chart.

AFC Telford United is hoping to chart a different kind of success this Christmas after Telford Stage School recorded a version of its team anthem Keeping the Dream Alive.

The well-known song hit the charts years ago when it was released by Freiheit and AFC Telford United are hoping to get the song into the charts again, in a bid to put Telford firmly on the music map.

A total of 5,000 records have been produced and will go on sale for just £1.20 at Virgin Megastores in Telford Town Centre between Monday December 5th and Saturday December 10th.

Excitement is building over the Christmas release and a number of local sporting celebrities – former boxing world champion Richie Woodhall, Olympic silver medallist javelin thrower Dave Ottley, and AFC Telford chairman and manager Lee Carter and Bernard McNally - have thrown their support behind the campaign.

Telford people are being urged to make Christmas special for the club and for Telford Stage School youngsters by buying their copy of the song, which is played at all home matches.

AFC Telford chairman Lee Carter said: “The children have done a wonderful job of putting their own spirit and enthusiasm into the song, which really describes the struggle the club has been through in recent years.

“It would be great if we could get into the Top 30 and put Telford on the map. We might even earn the children a well deserved appearance on Top of the Pops!”
