Wrekin View Primary School are leading the way in promoting healthy lifestyles, healthy eating, exercise and emotional and social well-being.
The week of special events and activities was launched on 24th September by our very own Mighty Max. He took over morning assembly to question children on healthy eating and to launch a competition to encourage children to try new foods, eat more fruit and vegetables, cut down on sugary drinks, sweets and salty fatty snacks.
Max said: "The children were brilliant, they all kenw foods that were best for them and foods that were not so good." Max left prizes of family swimming and ice skating tickets for children who made healthy changes during the week.
The week was packed with learning activities. The school nurse taught the kids about hygiene and hand washing. A community food worker talked about sugars and how bad too much sugar is for us all.
There was a big emphasis on exercise too, playing tag rugby, football, yoga, dance, orienteering, runing workshops, cycling and safe cycling. Friendship groups on emotional health and well-being were also promoted.
Throughout the week, pupils created healthy eating recipes and exercise was promotoed with a sponsored walk.
This is what the parents said:
"What a good idea, it shows that when we say what is good and bad for you at home we aren't fibbing. You have reinforced healthy living, exercise and a balanced diet as well as treats."
"My child told me what was happening and I put more healthy stuff in his lunchbox."
"There is nothing wrong with school meals. What a fab week!"
Stephanie Peters, Deputy Headteacher said:
"Everyone in school worked so hard. It was a really worthwhile week as it brought together a wide range of people. It demonstrated the many resources that are available to support healthier lifestyles not just for children but for the whole family."
