Local Food for Local People
Date: 7/4/2008

School meals in Telford and Wrekin support the idea of local food for local people and buy, where possible, from local producers:

  • our eggs are free range and come from Church Stretton
  • we use Belton cheese from Whitchurch
  • we use fresh meat reared in Shropshire and Staffordshire
  • our chickens are barn reared and come from Shropshire and Staffordshire
  • our greengrocer sources locally grown seasonal produce when possible, for example potatoes, carrots and lettuce from Market Drayton, tomatoes from Roden and local strawberries
  • our organic yoghurt comes from Weobley, Herefordshire
  • and our special award winning sausages come from Welshpool

It all saves food miles and helps the planet.

Would you like to use local produce in your own kitchen?

Why not visit one of the local farmers' markets:

  • Bishop's Castle 3rd Saturday of the month
  • Church Stretton 2nd and 4th Friday of the month
  • Craven Arms 1st Saturday of the month
  • Ludlow 2nd Thursday of the month
  • Much Wenlock 1st and 3rd Friday of the month
  • Oswestry Last Friday of the month
  • Shrewsbury 1st Friday of the month
  • Wem 2nd Saturday of the month
  • Whitchurch 1st Saturday of the month
