For the past 15 years Wellington Primary School have been receiving their 250 school meals each day from neighbouring Manorfield Primary School. Manorfield Primary School would prepare Wellington Primary School's meals on a daily basis but that has now come to an end thanks to a lot of hard work and investment from Tower Hamlets' School Catering Team and Wellington Primary School.
Anita Selby Catering Team Leader said " Even though the food transported to Wellington was always of a high quality you just can't better meals that are freshly prepared on site".
The kitchen has been fitted out with new hi-tech equipment, which will enable the staff to produced wholesome nutritionally balanced meals on a daily basis.
Michael Hales head of Children's Services Contract Services (CSCS School Catering) said " We are very excited that we have been able to work with the school in getting this project completed in such a short space of time. I can remember when the school used to have a cooking kitchen approximately 15 years ago. It was a separate old building in the playground, which was in a poor state - ultimately it was deemed unsafe and demolished. Today we are proud that we have a cooking kitchen, which again is providing healthy hot food each day to the pupils. I'm sure the school share the same thoughts and feelings.
The visit saw the head of kitchen cooking Homemade Southern Baked Chicken, Homemade Salmon & Salad Wrap and Homemade Mediterranean Vegetable Quiche served with a selection of Vegetables, Salads and a Fresh Fruit Platter for the excited children and members of staff.
