More than 50 local primary schools enjoyed a Barbeque Beach themed lunch on the 4th July 2007, thanks to the catering team at Children's Services Contract Services (CSCS School Catering).
Children and staff were able to tuck into a healthy nutritious lunch including Marinated Diced Lamb in a Pitta Pocket Chicken, Barbeque Style Fish and a Mediterranean Vegetable filled Pitta, which were all homemade using fresh ingredients. Finishing off with Beach Banana flavoured Ice Cream and a fresh fruit platter, the feasts were enjoyed by all.
CSCS School Catering cater for 100% of primary schools within the Borough, and provides the borough’s young people with more than 21,000 school lunches per day.
Head of Service, Michael Hales, said: " As we are supposed to be in the summer season it was the right occasion to create a theme that would go with this time of year as well as it being a nice touch to end the school year . We do like to give our students the opportunity to try something different but at the same time ensuring it is nutritionally balanced. It has clearly been a huge success and we may adopt some the dishes in to our new menu when it is launched in October".
A competition was held through the week, where pupils were asked to complete an activity sheet with various barbeque and beach related tasks. The winners will each receive a pack of colouring pens or pencils and then all the winning entries will be placed into a draw and 9 lucky students will be selected at random and will win either a pogo stick, DVD player or an MP3 player.
