The School Nutrition Award for Tower Hamlets is now entering its fourth year. It was developed by Children's Services Contract Services (the in-house school meal providers of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council) and the Community Dietitian (part of Bart’s and the London NHS Trust Nutrition and Dietetics Department). The award has been gaining increasing recognition within the primary and secondary schools in Tower Hamlets since it was started as well as a feature in a national association journal.

The award recognises the ‘whole school approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the local schools, providing recognition to the individual school catering service and nutrition-related activities e.g. breakfast clubs, tuck shops, water provision, organised within the school.

In 2005 Redlands Primary School obtained a Bronze award.

Jan, her team and the school have worked closely to encourage healthy eating and lifestyles to the pupils and parents.

All this work has paid off as Jan on behalf of Redlands Primary School collected a Silver award.
