The School Nutrition Award for Tower Hamlets is now entering its fourth year. It was developed by Children's Services Contract Services (the in-house school meal providers of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council) and the Community Dietitian (part of Bart’s and the London NHS Trust Nutrition and Dietetics Department). The award has been gaining increasing recognition within the primary and secondary schools in Tower Hamlets since it was started as well as a feature in a national association journal.
The award recognises the ‘whole school approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the local schools, providing recognition to the individual school catering service and nutrition-related activities e.g. breakfast clubs, tuck shops, water provision, organised within the school.
The school has commented how pleased they are with the meals being produced in the school when the inspectors visited.
Gloria and her team has a fantastic relationship with the children and has a morning cookery club which has been featured on our website. The kitchen staff have allowed parents to take our recipes home to try.
Such activates has meant that on this occasion Thomas Buxton Infant & Junior School won a Silver award.
