Date: 30/10/2007
Tower Hamlets students were treated to a new autumn lunch menu launched at Ben Jonson Primary school in Stepney on Monday 29th October 2007. This new menu includes even more mouth watering treats such as homemade Shepherds’ Pie, homemade Portuguese Omelette and Homemade Cajun Chicken along with 31 other homemade main meals. Fresh fruit, desserts, salads and both brown and white bloomer are also offered daily. Head of Tower Hamlets’ Children’s Services Contract Services, Michael Hales, who's award-winning team planned the new menus, said: "We are currently serving over 20,000 lunches per day - we like to educate our customers on eating a balanced diet and the school lunch period is a lesson in itself. These dishes we have on offer just show how the tastes of our customers have changed over the past few years and how hard we are working to make the school menu even more exciting.” Moustapha Bennadi the services' Marketing & Promotions Manager said: “A nutritional breakdown of every dish we offer to primary schools is available though our website. This facility allows parents and carers to assess the nutritional value of the meals offered. You can download a copy of your child’s school menu within a couple of clicks once you have logged on to our website. You should also have received a copy of the menu sent to you through the school your child attends. Our menus meet or exceed the government's food group guidelines that were set last year.” The menu runs on a three-week cycle and will be revised in April and October to incorporate seasonal variations. You can visit Children’s Services Contract Services' website at www.myschoollunch.co.uk/towerhamlets for more information, games, downloadable teaching resources and much more.
