More than 60 local primary schools enjoyed a special Black History Month this week, thanks to the catering team at Children’s Services Contract Services.   The children and staff tucked in to some fabulous meals such as homemade Jerk Chicken, homemade Baked Fish with Coconut, Macaroni Cheese Pie, Rice and Corn on the Cob along with Plantain.  Finishing off with Apple & Cinnamon Crumble Cake with Custard and Fresh Fruit platters, the feasts went down a treat.

The Council’s Children’s Service Contract Services team caters for 100% of primary schools within the Borough and provide the borough’s young people with more than 20,000 lunches per day. Head of the Service, Michael Hales, said: “We try and celebrate special occasions throughout the year.  With October being Black History Month, it was a great opportunity to have a themed lunch across the borough’s primary and secondary schools”

The food looked fantastic at St Elizabeth’s Primary School and it clearly has been a huge success and special thanks must go to all the Heads of Kitchens who have excelled themselves again and made this special day for the children in their schools thoroughly delicious, healthy and fun too.” A competition was held throughout the week, where pupils were asked to answer questions regarding professions of famous Black people in society.

Prizes for this competition will be drawn on the 12th November 2007 and each school will have a winner who will receive a pack of colouring pens or pencils.  There will also be prizes of a 3 street scooters, 1 DVD Player for the four entries with the most correct answers borough-wide.
