Food fiesta in Tower Hamlets schools
Trigger Pointing

Date: 1/4/2008

Children in schools across Tower Hamlets said “hola!” to a host of new foods last week, as they tucked into a special Spanish-themed lunch.

61 local primary schools and one secondary school took part in the themed lunch, which was organised by Tower Hamlets Council’s Contract Services team. The team put together a tasty menu of paella, Spanish fish and omelette dishes along with fresh salad and fruit for the children to enjoy on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 March.

Children taking part in the events were also given the opportunity to win some exciting prizes as part of a borough-wide competition held over the two days. MP3 players, portable CD players and fold-up scooters were all up for grabs as the children got to work on a quiz held over lunchtime on both days.

The theme days were part of the Contract Services team’s regular themed lunch events, which are a fun way of introducing Tower Hamlets children to new and interesting foods from different countries. The menus are nutritionally balanced, and help children meet the target of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
