SNA - Manorfield Primary School wins Gold
SNA 2008

Date: 22/7/2008

The School Nutrition Award for Tower Hamlets is now entering its 6th year. It was developed by Children's Services Contract Services (the in-house school meal providers of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council) and the Community Dietitian (part of Bart’s and the London NHS Trust Nutrition and Dietetics Department). The award has been gaining increasing recognition within the primary and secondary schools in Tower Hamlets.

The award recognises the ‘whole school approach’ to food and nutrition issues within the local schools, providing recognition to the individual school catering service and nutrition-related activities e.g. breakfast clubs, grow your own garden, water provision, organised within the school.

The Conclusion

The visit to Manorfield Primary School was a very pleasent experience.  the food looked great and tasted even better.  the school are very proactive as well in  making sure that their children are being taught about healhty eating.

The school has a breakfast club that 30 children attend on a dailt basis, they also have an organic vegetable garden, an active school nutrition team and have held a healthy eating week. Alot of work has been done in improving the diet and awareness of it's pupils.

Karen (Head of Kitchen) and her team continue to back this up with excellent food each day every day as well as interacting with the pupils.

In 2006 the team received a Gold Award on their first inspection and this year they managed to successfully obtain the Gold Award again.
