Pupils at Ben Jonson School joined 50 other schools across the borough to celebrate Trigger’s eighth birthday today. Trigger is Tower Hamlets Council’s healthy eating mascot and has been a favourite visitor in many schools over the past few years. For Trigger’s birthday celebration, local pupils feasted on a special themed lunch meal of freshly prepared homemade dishes along with a selection of homemade sandwiches, homemade chicken nuggets, homemade pizza, coleslaw, potato salad and mixed salads. The spread was finished off with a delicious sponge cake topped with orange segments. Pupils were also given the opportunity to enter a competition to design a birthday hat for Trigger. The deadline for entries is 22nd May 2008, with each school having a winner who will receive a pack of colouring pencils. There will also be 5 overall borough prizes of five street scooters. Winners will be announced on 1st June 2008. Michael Hales Head of Children's Services Contract Services (CSCS - School Catering) said " Trigger wanted to celebrate his birthday with his friends and those friends are children that are schooled in Tower Hamlets,. He is a major part of our service and we know the children love him. Our catering staff have again put in a tremendous amount of work in for this celebration to be a great success and big thank you goes out to all of them"
Trigger is one of the initiatives developed by Tower Hamlets Children's Services Contract Services (CSCS). CSCS, who have won several a national awards for excellence in education catering, currently serve over 21,000 healthy lunches per day, catering for all the primary schools in the borough, as well as the majority of secondary schools.
