More than 50 local primary schools enjoyed a special Flavours of Asia themed lunch on the 17th and 18th June 2009 thanks to the hard work from the catering team of Children’s Services Contract Services (CSCS – School Catering). The children and staff tucked into a specially prepared menu consisting of dishes from Far East Asia such as Beef Chow Mein, Singapore Vegetable Stir Fry, Tuna and Spring Onion Wrap, Prawn Crackers, Salads, Vegetables, Fresh Fruit Platter and an Asian Banana Cake. The menu went down a treat. Head of the Service, Michael Hales, said: “This is the first time we have done this type of themed day. The dishes that were produced were from China, Malaysia and Singapore and through feedback it has been a huge success with our customers. We may even take some of these dishes and put them on our next menu. We like to provide pupils with opportunities to try different, healthy and fun foods from around the world and this themed day has been able to do this. The next themed day planned by CSCS – School catering will called “Tastes of the States” which will be held on the 14th and 15th July 2009.
